Helix Medical Gloucester Operations Adds Thermoplastic Injection Molding
Carpinteria, California – April 4, 2012 – Helix Medical, LLC, a global manufacturer for the medical device and healthcare industries, announces the addition of thermoplastic injection molding capability to their Gloucester, Massachusetts medical manufacturing facility. Helix Medical Gloucester Operations has been a premiere contract manufacturer for injection molded silicone components (LSR and LIM) since 1989 and has been over molding silicone onto plastic components for many years.
“With our two-shot capability, we have always molded plastics to some degree,” said Edward Callahan, Vice President and General Manager at Helix Medical Gloucester Operations, “but we wanted to expand our capabilities in molding, as well as in assembly and packaging, and enable our customers to consolidate suppliers and purchase all components from Helix. This allows us to meet our customer demands for turnkey systems and product design while lowering costs and optimizing customer value.”
Thermoplastic molding capabilities, performed in a Class 8 cleanroom, include insert molding, twocomponent molding, and various types of over molding including plastic or silicone over metal. Other services include design and development, prototyping, full validation capabilities, scientific molding, assembly, and packaging. The operation is capable of low, medium, and high-volume plastic molding and they have established unique low volume work-cells optimizing standardization and a modular tooling concept to drive competitive costing. This strategic initiative has minimized set-up time to reflect lower part and tooling cost for customers. They also employ high-volume, fully automated 24/7 lights out production thereby controlling critical process parameters on each molding machine.
