Endoscopy
Advanced design for controlled navigation
In the endoscopy devices market, customers often face challenges balancing complex design requirements with material performance and ergonomic usability, especially for single-use scopes.
Our customers in this space include endoscopy medical device companies and equipment manufacturers who we work with to balance function, materials, and assembly options. These combined efforts help bring high-performing single-use endoscopes to life across a variety of clinical needs.
Single-Use Scopes
Landscape and Advantages
Beyond general market trends, the endoscopy sector has faced critical concerns. In 2015, the FDA mandated major OEMs to conduct post-market surveillance studies to assess contamination rates following clinical use and reprocessing of reusable scopes.
These studies revealed contamination levels that were higher than expected, even after disinfection and sterilization, highlighting risks of cross-infection, especially from drug-resistant superbugs linked to reprocessing failures.
In response, the FDA endorsed a shift toward innovative scope designs in 2019, recommending disposable components or fully single-use scopes to enhance patient safety. This transition gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic, when infection control became a top priority.
By 2021, the FDA was encouraging the use of disposable bronchoscopes in certain patients to help control the spread of the virus. At Freudenberg Medical, we see single-use scopes offering real advantages for our customers, including reduced infection risk, smoother workflows, and long-term cost benefits.
